Weather Patterns Boost Sales of Landscaping Supplies

Recent weather patterns have resulted in increased sales of landscaping supplies in the top half of the South Island.  September and October had less rainfall than normal, causing drier than normal soil conditions to evolve in the top of the South Island and Northern Canterbury.  Some very high temperatures in November exacerbated this. NIWA’s climate outlook has predicted the summer will see long dry spells, with El Niño conditions continuing to develop.

According to MetService, the immediate forecast for the North Island, Nelson and Marlborough is a cooler than usual December, with a high degree of rainfall volatility. This combination of factors makes it great time to utilise mulch in the garden. Mulching is highly efficient at promoting moisture retention in the soil, making use of periods of rainfall to protect plants through upcoming dry spells.

Ben Homan, National Sales Manager of Wholesale Landscapes, says “due to short supply in the North Island, we’re now supplying two-thirds of New Zealand, geographically.  Wholesale Landscapes volumes supplying the South Island alone have gone up over 40 percent on last year‘s supply. Within these areas, especially the top half of the South Island, what we’re seeing is the weather playing a huge part in the increase of volumes. We expect over the summer it won’t flatten off as it has in previous years.”

Wholesale Landscapes has a broad range of mulches, including decorative barks, such as the purpose-built, innovative, modern-style ground covering, Black Forrest® and the newly-introduced Redwood Forrest®, along with other top-selling products, such as Forest Floor. These mulches enhance your garden, helping the soil retain moisture whilst also suppressing weeds. By adding beneficial organic materials, mulches also improve soil structure and overall plant health.

See Wholesale Landscapes’ website for their latest Product Specification Guide, which provides detailed descriptions of all their landscaping supplies.
